08/09/10 - I started researching on record and the history behind the development of technology. I researched how record and technology has changed over time and made notes on what we found out. We researched back to the 18th century and made a timeline on inventors and their inventions throughout late 18th to 19th century. I also included information about modern day technology and presented all this information onto a PowerPoint.
13/09/10 – I had to fill out worksheets to show our understanding on different mediums of recording such as film, audio, film and print. We looked at the different types of record and did further research on them.
06/10/10 – I developed my PowerPoint on the history of record and made added more information that I found out from last lesson.
20/10/10 – This lesson I completed my PowerPoint on the history of record and started a new presentation on storing records.
03/11/10 – I did more research and my teacher explained the different information that we should include in our presentations.
10/11/10 - I completed my presentations and made additional adjustments and added extra useful information.
15/11/10 - This lesson we had an animator who came in to teach us how to create an animation on adobe flash. Trevor Jarvis first introduced the software to us and taught us the basics of the software so that we could get the hang of it. The first things that I learnt were making key frames and draw a shape and make it move. Each of us produced a thirty second animation of a bouncing ball as a starter.
24/11/10 - Today a production assistant who is also a professional camera man visited us. Lokmen Chekki gave us an introduction an explained to us the development of analogue and digital cameras and all the technical elements behind it. We were also told that we had to include this information in our research as part of 4.1 PowerPoint and focus on history of film. We also discussed about the future development of recording with cameras such as 3D or 4D including holograms.
29/11/10 - Trevor Jarvis came in to work with us again and we began working on our own animations to include in our music video. As me and my partner had decided to include our animations in the party dancing scene, we thought having characterised dancing animation would be interesting and fun. I started drawing a monkey and inserted a few key frames just to experiment with on how my monkey should move. I also made a second animation, an aeroplane, as our song is called ‘holiday’ so it suits the video.
08/12/10 - Today we were visited by Yoshito Darmon who previously worked in a filming company as a professional camera man. He taught is how to use the white balance when filming and taking pictures. He also demonstrated on how to set up the camera onto the tripod. We learned the rule of three which includes the head room and lead room. These are the detailed elements in which photographers and camera men look at to frame a shot/picture accurately.
24/04/11 – We discussed and planned out our storyboard. We also typed our initial ideas up and both of us contributed more ideas for our music video.
26/01/11 - Today we discussed on what responsibilities each of us should have and what our roles should be. We also talked about who should be in charge of the schedule plan and contracts. In addition to this, we discussed the health and safety risk assessments that we need to consider and what venues we will film in.
02/02/11 - In this lesson I analysed the audience survey results. From these results we had to make a few alterations to our music video plan to ensure that it meets our target audiences’ requirements.
07/02/11 - Today we decided on what roles we will be taking during the filming of the music video. The main role will be played by someone else and I will be one of the partiers along with my partner Moushomi. We also have to film the music video so we will take turns in being in the video itself.
09/03/11 - Today we were visited by a software company, Moviestorm who introduced us to the software and demonstrated how to use it. I learned that Moviestorm allows people to make animated movies directly from their computers and others can view it. This enabled for anyone who wants to be a director to be one starting with Moviestorm.

4.4 Evaluation on Unit 4 Record as a Whole
Throughout unit 4 Record, I have developed and gained skills. I have developed in drawing a storyboard for my music video which also allowed me to plan out my music video and know exactly what to film. I have improved on using a camera and shooting from different angles. I can now film long steady shots, close ups, medium shots and tracking shots and this is visible in our music video. I have also learnt how to use iMovie to a higher standard. I can now edit, cut and split a clip without errors and apply different transitions to ensure the film runs smoothly throughout. I edited the video and I think I did this well because from watching my music video, it all blends in and runs smoothly without any sharp stops in between. I have also learnt how to insert the mini DV tape without damaging it.
4.4 Evaluation on 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3
4.1
As part of primary research, my partner, Moushomi Hanif, and I created a survey (surveymonkey.com) to find out what our audiences' likes and dislikes on music video's were. For secondary research, I did individual research on the history of record, music video's and storing records by searching relevant information on different websites as well as watching clips on YouTube.
The survey went well as we got a variety of answers which helped us broaden our choices on what to include in our music video. I also think that my individual research went well as it allowed me to learn about the history of our project and the nature of how it all began.
To improve 4.1, we could have requested for our target audience to give video recordings of sections of their favourite music video's to give us a better understanding on what they like most in music videos. This would also give us a clear picture on what to film and we would know that our audience will relate to it as they have suggested it.
4.2
During the planning process of the music video, I was responsible for designing second half of our storyboard, making production schedule, making the health and safety risk assessment sheet as well as carrying out these assessments, making the location contracts as well as job description sheets and for hiring volunteer actors by handing out contract sheets which will be returned to Moushomi and producing the call sheets for the actors. As we did not require for a budget, no one was responsible for this because all actors were required to dress bring in their own clothes and props were not being used.
Location contract was important as we used someone else's house in which to film so we had to produce a location contract sheet and ask permission from the owner. We also filmed in a shop which also required us to get permission so we had to ask the manager of the store and he signed the contract.
I think I did well in making the contracts because all the volunteers that I asked said they understood it without difficulties. I think that my half of the storyboard was good however more use of colours would be a good improvement and for the health and safety risk assessment, I could have described it in more detail and included images of the location.
4.3
We got a few people to watch the video (from our target audience age range) and give us feedback on the video.
Most said that the video was worth watching and was interesting as it involved a lot of family which was nice. They also mentioned that the editing was very good and most of the camera shots varied which made it more interesting. However some critical evaluation given was that the music did not suit the video and therefore they couldnt relate to it. Overall we asked each reviewer to rate our video and the majority gave us 4 out of 5. This shows that our video was quite successful.

4.2.7 Budget
For our music video we were not entitled to a budget as we did ot need it. We used our own clothes for our costumes and props were not necessary apart from those which we borrowed from the owner of our venue. We covered the cost of everything by using our own things from home.

4.2 Audience Survey Results Analysis
Analysing the audience survey results, I can see that my audience vary from different age groups. Majority of my audience prefer RnB genre in music as 91.7% selected this. Other popular genre's include pop, rock and country. Only a few chose jazz which means I would have to think about more RnB, pop, rock and country rather than jazz. As you can see, nobody selected opera which suggests that I should avoid this genre as it was disliked by my target audience.
Most of my audience prefer themed music video's and the most popular theme was 'party' or 'happy'. This means that I need to pick a party themed song in order to make the video party themed.
As me and my partner planned on including animations in our video, we needed the views of our audience so asked this on our survey. Luckily over half of our audience said they'd prefer animations in video's stating that it is a more unique and original idea.
Nearly all of our audience said they'd rather watch a 3-4 minute music video. Considering this we would have to set our limits within that time barrier as we wouldn't want to bore our audience.
66.7% preferred happy endings and the other 33.3% thought cliff hanger endings would be better. This suggests that we will not have sad endings whatsoever.
Both me and my partner researched different music videos that our audience would enjoy and from the survey, we found that most enjoyed lively and partying music videos.
